Jodhpur mehrangarh fort

Jodhpur, was the capital of kingdom Marwar(Rathore rulers), situated at the edge of the Thar Desert. Famous for Mehrangarh Fort, gives clear picture of the  wealthy state of India during ancient period as it falls under famous Silk Route.

Mehrangarh Fort:jodhpur mehrangarh fort1 Construction was started by the Rao Jodha during mid 15th Century A.D using sandstone commonly available material in the Rajasthan. With Seven gates and number of palaces construction took hundreds of years. Best Lattice works could seen on windows. Fort houses museum with variety of paintings, costumes, arms like 3-in-1 weapon, Akbar’s Sword. Zenana Deodhi was the women’s qrts. Other Important chambers in the Fort are Sheesh Mahal, Rang Mahal, Moti Mahal. Fort is also famous for Goddess Chamundi Temple, deity of the rulers.

Jaswant Thada: Built in commemoration of the Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. White Marble structure stands tall with its unique collection.

Umaid Bhavan Palace: Royal Family is living here in part of the Palace and other part is houses a museum.

Clock TowerJodhpur-Clock-Tower,Umed Garden, Rai-Ka-Bag Palace.

Mandore Gardens:jodhpur mandore Famous for Hall of Heroes (16 gigantic figures carved out of single rock), is 8 km from the city.

Other important places are Clock Tower, Umed Garden, Rai-Ka-Bag Palace, Kaylana Lake and Balsammand LakeJodhpur balsamand lake and the Palace.

How to Reach Jodhpur: Jodhpur is well connected by Air, Rail, Road network. Regular flights from Delhi and Mumbai make it more convenient to visit. Air Port is  5 km away from the city. Trains are available to all major places in India and State government is running buses from all important places in the State Rajasthan.
