Brihadeeswara Temple , Tanjore

Thanjavur is synonymous to art, architecture, literature which secured UNESCO World Heritage Site status to this tour place. Huge contribution from various dynasties from the Chola kings second half of 9th century A.D to the Nayaka and the Maratha kings made possible to gain this.

Brihadeeswara Temple: It is a Big temple for local people. It has completed 1000 years and is the most attractive and visited monument.

Thanjavur Palace: It was constructed by Nayaka Kings and served as a residence of Maratha kings.

Saraswathi Mahal Library:Saraswati Mahal Library Thanjavur It was established by Nayaka kings and store house of invaluable manuscripts.

Thanjavur art has a special place in the world of paintings. The walls of temples are endowed with an excellent murals.

Other important places are Museums, Shivaganga Park and Tank.

Important festivals are Tyagaraja Aradhana and Sathaya Thiruvizha held in January and October respectively.

Vaduvoor Bird Sanctuary:Thanjavur vaduvoor bird sanctuary It is located 25 km from the Thanjavur. Its attraction has been doubled with the water tank which gets its flow from Mettur Dam.

How to reach Thanjavur: It is well connected by Rail and Road network from all important towns in the country. Nearest airport is located in Tiruchirapalli.
